LET'S PLAY Archive

Millenials grew up in the golden age of the Let's Play genre (and not much else). YouTube was first starting to be a real, socially acceptable job an adult could feasibly have. Minecraft was hitting the scene, though it wasn't for me. I would spend an embarrassing amount of time watching these, and they became an indelable part of my childhood memories.

This is the pinnacle of the Let's Play genre, I will take no argument. One of my favorites of the SBFP catalog, and maybe in general. Deadly Premonition, directed by visionary Hidetaka Suehiro (also known Swery65), is nothing short of a (hysterically funny) masterpiece, bearing no resemblance to Twin Peaks whatsoever. This LP itself was released while I was in high school, & I have a distinct memory of watching it at night,in the summer, hearing the crickets through my window. May 3, 2013
The Simbiote was active on Youtube for several years, uploading mostly Sims 3 content, including this beloved classic, the Monte Vista challenge. The story follows three siblings, the children of epidemiologists, stranded in the faraway land, and what they make of their lives afterword. The storyteller herself is really the thing that makes these series so compelling to watch, able to paint motivation and love onto the acts of buggy 2000s AI. Dec 30, 2012
For whatever reason, TeamFourStar's Pokemon Nuzlocke LPs percolated through my college years. The Silver Nuzlocke was so full of characters that later became iconic, and it was weirdly compelling to watch these adult men and their underdog team of critters pummel their way through this high-stakes world. A behemoth of a Skyrim LP, featuring a very irate librarian. If you want to spend the next month watching this, I'd say it's good fun. Started in 2012, and only stopped updating in 2017, so there's lots of material there. Dec 16, 2012
One of my favorites, even though it's only about an hour. I'm obssessed with Internet graveyards, and this is one of the spookiest of them all. The characters, music and strange narrative are chaotic, and, in some moments, genuinely eerie. Nov 7, 2014
This one really takes me back. This LP inspired me to buy Vampire: The Masquerade, which was crack to my 2000s emo sensibilities. The LPer was also one of the first Internet personalities I gravitated towards, and created fanart for. Nov 29, 2011
What is there to say, everyone knows Monster Factory. It was the only thing that could get me to fall asleep in the depths of my insomnia, but only if I was taking a midday nap. All the series here are on the list because they were 'there' for me at some hard point in my life, and now they're a part of my brain architecture. May 4, 2015
A dark take on a common Sims challenge, this LP encapsules some really interesting lore and themes. I can't say how many of these I watched as a kid but it was a lot, and this is the one that has always impressed me the most. In fact, I think I even made fanart of it at one point. April 20, 2014
If I let this list go on for too long, TBFP will make up the majority of it. Trying to restrain myself. Love you, Snailborne. Mar 30, 2015
Favorite Silent Hill game, bar none. Pat wanted this LP to shine, and I think they succeeded. Silent Hill 2 was released by Konami in 2001 as a sequel to the popular survival horror classic, Silent Hill (1999). Despite not carrying over many characters or themes from the first release, Silent Hill 2 was a roaring success, still standing as one of the most critically acclaimed games of its genre. Admittedly I wasn't a Yu-gi-oh kid, the whole game kinda confused me, but the character is so entertaining that I couldn't help but enjoy it. LittleKuriboh is a genuinely talented voice actor who's done work with TeamFourStar in the DBZA series. Jan 25, 2015
A new spin on the classic Nuzlocke challenge, Marriland improvises a Wedlocke challenge, adding further restrictions to the more challenging mode of play. It's honestly kinda wholesome. Dec 26, 2012
